travel journal: inokashira park

In March 2018, my friend Tommy and I decided to spend a month road tripping around Japan. We timed it so that our trip would finish back in Tokyo, just in time for the cherry blossoms. Our friend Peter joined us on one of the days in exploring Inokashira Park, which was located in the artistic and increasingly trendy neighbourhood of Kichijoji. Tommy had a shoot arranged, so Peter and I spent the afternoon hovering around before his phone whisked him away to tend to one of his dates.

Below is a collection of photos from the day.

Getting Around

Travelling in from the main hubs is very convenient.

From Shinjuku Station on the Chuo line (red) towards Toyoda, it is a 15 minute ride to Kichijoji station and then 5 minutes by foot. You’ll come across a few small alleyways which are littered with cafes and small souvenir shops, before you reach the park.

To make the most of your day, the Studio Ghibli museum in Mitaka is within walking distance from the park, so you can also get your Totoro fixes without too much hassle.
